About me

Training and approach
I started my counselling and psychotherapy career working with in-patients at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, and with students at London Metropolitan University. More recently I have worked at Finchley Memorial Hospital with clients referred by general practitioners. I also currently see clients at The Claremont Project in Islington.

I completed Postgraduate Diploma training in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling at Regent’s College in London, and am now undertaking research for an MA at Regent's College.

I practice as an integrative psychotherapist/counsellor: that is I try to integrate aspects of different theories in how I understand and practice counselling or psychotherapy (terms which have essentially the same meaning for me).

In particular, I take account of existential and psychodynamic theories in my own thinking, but I don't try to impose any fixed ideas or concepts on clients. I believe it is helpful for clients to develop their own ways of understanding themselves with my support, and not to adopt my perspectives.

My style
My style is relaxed, warm and supportive. I allow clients to talk about what ever they wish to, and inquire into their concerns and experiences with interest, care and an open mind.

In asking questions or offering reflections on what you talk about, I try to encourage you to expand on, or acknowledge, your thoughts and feelings; to deepen our mutual understanding of your experience by noticing details or considering different perspectives on it; to make connections to other things you have said; or to pay attention to what you experience in the counselling itself that may relate to other situations in your life.

I take an active interest in your experiences, emotions and thoughts, and I avoid offering my own answers or opinions about the questions and choices you face - I believe those are your responsibility and that my role is to support you as you take that responsibility.

Professional membership
I am a Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to its Ethical Framework. I am committed to honouring the trust placed in me by clients, promoting their well-being, and respecting their right to be self-governing. If you are unsatisfied with my conduct, I would encourage you to raise any issue with me in our sessions so that I can understand you better and address your issue. If I can't resolve your grievance, and if you feel my conduct has been seriously unethical or unprofessional, you can also complain formally to the BACP to seek a resolution.

Other work
I also offer coaching and consulting services to organisational clients. I have a background in change and communication in organisations, and an MSc in Organisation Consulting from Ashridge.
